Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan is a prairie and boreal province in western Canada and is bordered on the west by Alberta, on the north by the Northwest Territories, on the east by Manitoba and the south by the U.S. states of Montana and North Dakota. Residents primarily live in the southern prairie half of the province, while the northern boreal half is mostly forested and sparsely populated. Of the total population, roughly half live in the province’s largest city Saskatoon or the provincial capital Regina. Other notable cities include Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Yorkton, Swift Current, North Battleford, Melfort
Mining is a major industry in the province, with Saskatchewan being the world’s largest exporter of potash and uranium. Oil and natural gas production is also a very important part of Saskatchewan’s economy, although the oil industry is larger. Among Canadian provinces, only Alberta exceeds Saskatchewan in overall oil production. Saskatchewan manufacturers are producing a wide range of goods that are exported to markets across Canada and around the world.
Saskatchewan has a vibrant art and culture scene, scenic provincial parks and plenty of sports and recreation opportunities. Known as the birthplace of Medicare, its residents enjoy free medical care and excellent health care services.
Saskatchewan’s education system offers affordable opportunities at every level. All graduates from an approved program at an eligible institution in 2006 or later, and who live in Saskatchewan are eligible to apply for the province’s Graduate Retention Program. The program refunds up to $20,000 of tuition fees paid by eligible graduates (including international graduates) who live in Saskatchewan and who file a Saskatchewan income tax return.
Housing costs are lower in Saskatchewan than in most major cities in Canada, and owning a home is affordable and achievable for most people.
Saskatchewan Immigration Nomination Program ( SINP ) offers various streams to get nominated by the province under three major categories:
International Skilled Workers
The International Skilled Worker (ISW) category is for skilled workers living abroad who want to work and live in Saskatchewan. There are three sub-categories that international skilled workers may apply for under the SINP.
- International Skilled Worker: Employment offer: This category is for skilled workers who have a valid job offer for a skilled occupation in Saskatchewan and are living abroad or in Canada.
- International Skilled Worker: Occupation In-Demand: This is for skilled workers who do not have a job offer in Saskatchewan but are highly skilled in an in-demand occupation.
- International Skilled Worker: Saskatchewan Express Entry: This is for skilled workers without a job offer in Saskatchewan and is in the federal express entry pool.
Saskatchewan Experience
The Saskatchewan Experience (In-SK) category is for foreign nationals who are currently working and living in Saskatchewan on a valid work permit. There are six sub-categories that foreign workers currently working and living in Saskatchewan may apply for under the SINP.
- Skilled worker with existing work permit: This category is for those who have been working in Saskatchewan with a valid work permit for at least six months and have a permanent full-time job offer from a Saskatchewan employer in NOC 0, A or B.
- Semi-skilled Agriculture Worker with existing work permit: This category applies to those who have been working for more than six months with a valid work permit for the employer offering a job or, who have previously worked in Saskatchewan for a minimum of six months and have a full-time job offer from a Saskatchewan employer in following occupations:
- NOC 8431: General Farm Worker
- NOC 8432: Nursery and Greenhouse Worker
- Health Professionals: This category is for skilled workers who have been working full-time in Saskatchewan on a temporary permit for at least six months as a Physician, Nurse or Other health care professional.
- Hospitality Sector: This sub-category is for foreign workers who want to apply for permanent residency and are currently working in Saskatchewan on a temporary work permit through a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) and are working in one of the following jobs:
- NOC 6513: Food/Beverage Server
- NOC 6711: Food counter Attendant/Kitchen helper
- NOC 6731: Housekeeping/Cleaning Staff
- Long-Haul Truck Driver: This sub-category is for long-haul truck drivers who are willing to work for an approved trucking firm in Saskatchewan.
- Students: Students who graduated from a Saskatchewan institute or a recognized post-secondary educational institution in Canada and have a permanent full-time job offer in the field of their study and have worked for a minimum of 6 months with an employer in Saskatwhen can apply under this category.
Entrepreneur and Farm Operators:
The Entrepreneur Category is for foreign nationals who wish to obtain or partner in a business in Saskatchewan and be actively involved in managing it while residing in Saskatchewan.
The Farm Owner and Operator Category is for foreign nationals who’d like to move to Saskatchewan and who:
- Have proven experience in farming;
- Have considerable capital (money, assets) to invest in a farming operation; and
- Plan to buy and run a farm in Saskatchewan.
