Parents & Grandparents sponsorship
If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent residence and want to sponsor your parents or grandparents to Canada, you can do it through this program. The program first started as a lottery system but later changed to first come- first serve in the year 2019.
In case of divorce or separation, you can sponsor your parent and their respective spouses or common-law partners.
You can also include your brother and sisters or half brother and sister if they qualify as dependent children.
Who is eligible to sponsor a parent or grandparent:
- must be at least 18 years old
- must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living inside Canada
- must have sufficient income to support yourself and the person being sponsored
- you must provide proof that you meet the income requirement for each of the 3 tax years before the date you apply.
Your spouse or common-in-law partner can be your co-signer to meet the minimum income requirement to sponsor your parents/grandparents.
As your co-signer, your spouse or common-law partner must:
- meet the same eligibility requirements as you, the sponsor
- agree to, for a period of time, financially take care of and provide for the basic needs of the persons you’re sponsoring
You and your co-signer are equally liable if these obligations aren’t performed.
